Note: I am not the original writer of the characters; All credit to Halo Studios Franchise Writing Team for live service narrative work. I was not employed at the studio during Halo Infinite’s production. This is a fan-take on, “What if this continued?”.
How I chose this project: Multiplayer plus story?
“You had my curiosity. But now you have my attention.” Also, Halo. My favorite videogame series.
As a long-time fan of Halo’s multiplayer, I was definitely intrigued by the new seasonal multiplayer storytelling. When the cutscenes dribbled out (shoutout to the Cinematics Team), one by one for Halo Infinite, I watched all of them. Side storytelling in the world established by the campaign, but loosely connected to it?
I wanted more of it.
Fans were bummed when the studio cancelled them, diverting the resources to other projects.
This is my take on continuing this story using the established cast.
My Process: I discovered unreleased cutscenes (linked below). I based my example off of the final one - Season 4, Narrative 3.
I asked myself, “Okay, Iratus is disabled. Dinh is in trouble, the Academy is under ONI lock down, and Commander Agryna has to answer to them.
What’s next? Do the Banished suddenly attack them? Or does a Pelican-worth of ONI spooks come discipline the Spartans?”
Following that, I watched those unreleased cutscenes a few times over. I got a good idea of what these characters were up against, or would be. My goal was to raise the stakes more. Iratus is one thing. What’s next, though? I explore this in this example of seasonal multiplayer writing.
The Result: A continuation of the character arcs. Possible stakes. Furthermore, to demonstrate that I can work within an established IP - my favorite one.
